Flight Path...
This grey February morning I had a Skype meeting with Simon Pope. In talking about my practice, and the various ways in which I explore a topic, Simon noted that it is personal narrative which seems to drive my explorations and interests. It is the personal stories related to my areas of interest that drive me to delve deeper into a topic. In Between the Song and the Silence, it is the story of two elderly birdwatchers which compels me to expand my explorations into birds and humans, bird-watching, musical notation and the Anthropocene. In A Ubiquity of Sparrows, interviewing families that immigrated from China during the War on Sparrows drives my desire to understand that time in history and with what happened to them, juxtaposed against childhood memories of my neighbours. In both cases, they are stories which themselves now interweave with my personal history.
