About the Vitrines ...
I am an inveterate collector of natural objects. My studio is filled with boxes, all labelled as to where they came from, and in the case of gifts, who they came from. These form my own “cabinet of curiosities”. They are the objects I play with, look at and contemplate: colours, textures, shapes. I arrange and rearrange them for my own pleasure, forming ephemeral vistas of memory.
For this exhibition, Souvenir/Souvenir, I was asked to present some of these objects. Each object is truly a souvenir, in both the English sense of an object to which we attach memories and in the French sense of remembrance. |
